Richard is a partner in our Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team in Liverpool and was called to the Bar in 1999. Before moving into legal practice, Richard worked as a Contract Manager in the Construction Industry for over 10 years. He has managed many large civil and commercial building projects and has over 25 years’ experience in legal practice having a very broad experience in civil and commercial litigation acting on behalf of clients in respect of contract disputes, professional negligence, partnership disputes and particularly claims relating to land and property including, construction disputes, particularly acting on behalf of subcontractors, trespass, nuisance, breach of easement and forfeiture. In addition to property matters, Richard has a particular interest in shareholder and company disputes. Richard has acted on behalf of clients ranging from sole traders to international companies.

Richard has run litigation across the County Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and the Royal Court of Justice, Senior Costs office and is often involved in complex disputes and provides tailored strategic solutions to develop a litigation plan designed to achieve the clients desired outcome either by negotiated settlement through mediation, Alternative Dispute Resolution or ultimately through the Court process.

Recent cases and experience:

  • Acted on behalf of a client in a disputed Share Purchase Agreement of a company valued in excess of £1 million and recovered the company for the sellers against hostile purchasers
  • Acted for a company in the dismissal of a Director in breach of directors’ duties and successfully defended a claim for Unfair Prejudice with a claim value in excess of £250,000
  • Acted in a multi-jurisdictional claim on behalf of a Hong Kong-based client and secured a judgment for £5.5 million
  • Acted in a breach of contract claim with a value of over £1.3 million in the High Court
  • Brought a claim in the Court of Appeal on behalf of a leading international recycling company, which concluded with a settlement prehearing
  • Successfully defended a commercial property client against a dilapidation claim in excess of £1.3 million
  • Settled a dispute in a family business securing a settlement for our client of £1.2 million in mediation
